First Lady Margie Brown was born in Harlem and grew up in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. She is the oldest of eleven children born to Rosabell (Hunter) Collington and the late Fred Collington, both natives of Johns Island, SC.
She received her primary, secondary and post secondary education from schools in New York City, including Columbia University (former President Barack Obama and the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s alma mater).
First Lady Margie Brown’s work experience is vast in both the medical (nursing) and legal field (paralegal). In 2020 Margie retired after working 37 years in the legal profession. Although she retired from her secular job, she has not retired from her spiritual commitment and lifetime of service to God.
First Lady Margie Brown and Rev. Dr. Major Brown III have been married for over 25 years. Together they have 6 adult children 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
From an early age, First Lady Margie Brown knew God. God is the foundation of her life and she truly enjoys serving the Lord alongside her husband. She is a people person who never meets a stranger. Her heart’s desire is to live each and every day showing God’s love to others.
Two of Margie’s favorite scripture is “. . .for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
